Sotheby's, art auction in favor of the City College of New York

Some works from the collection of Charles Offin, artist and patron who graduated from the City College of New York in 1920, will be auctioned at Sotehby's next March 13 – The proceeds will be used to support a series of artistic initiatives of this College, including support for the fine arts and performing arts.

The Triplets New York for March 13 at Sotheby's, which will see the Impressionist & Modern Art Including Russian Art auction with a vast selection of works (167 lots auctioned) in oil on paper from the 19th and 20th centuries by French artists such as Camille Pissarro, Boudin, Maurice de Vlaminck, Raoul and Jean Dufy or Russians like David Davidovich Burljuk, Pavel Tchelitchew and Alexander Altmann.

From signal some works, including Nature Morte and Statue by Albert André (1869-1954), a painting (oil on canvas 81×60,6cm) which will be included in the next catalog being prepared by Mme Evelyne Yeatman. The work comes from City College of New York, a college of higher education founded in 1847 as the Free Academy of the City of New York for the purpose of providing access to immigrant children. City College of New York offers a diverse path of undergraduate study to students from all over the world. Today there are over 15 university students attending it, half of whom were born outside the United States.

Among the people who have graduated from this College is Charles Offin, who graduated in 1920. His great passion for art led him, during his time as art editor of The Broklyn Daily Eage, as well as artist, to soon become a great patron. He died in 1990, aged 90, bequeathing to City College a very diverse collection of paintings, prints, drawings and sculptures, including several works in this auction catalogue. Other works from his Collection will be included in the March, May and October sales.

Proceeds from these sales will be used to support a number of this's artistic initiatives College, including support for the fine arts and performing arts.
