Sicily, M5S: Court suspends Regions

Sicily, M5S: Court suspends Regions

“The 5 Star Movement will be there in Sicily, there is no risk of chaos. The court simply accepted the appeal of a member who wants to be on the list and, as a precautionary measure, suspended the regional elections. This does not mean that the 5 Star Movement will participate in the elections, as planned, and will do so following the decisions that will be taken by the court".

This is what we read in a blog post by Beppe Grillo in reaction to the decision of the Court of Palermo to suspend the pentastellate regional elections, accepting as a precautionary measure the appeal presented by Mauro Giulivi, who was excluded from the selection. The judges therefore stopped the candidacy of Giancarlo Cancelleri as governor of Trinacria. The definitive response should arrive on 18 September in conjunction with the national convention "Italia 5 Stelle" during which the candidate for Premier (which will most likely be Luigi Di Maio) should be proclaimed. In the event that the Court were to declare the regional elections invalid, the grillini would have to start all over again 25 days after the deadline for presenting the lists.

A setback that could spoil the plans of the 5 Stars on the Sicilian regional elections on November 5th.

An event that recalls, among other things, the Naples case (with the readmission of the expelled activist), but above all the cancellation of the candidacy for mayor of Marika Cassimatis, winner of the annual municipal elections from the leaders of the Movement.
