The Antitrust has launched an investigation against Poste Italiane to verify whether the company has abused its dominant position in the liberalized postal services sector.
The Authority will have to ascertain whether the company has provided "VAT exempt - reads the press release - also the services subject to individual negotiation. In fact, while all postal operators must apply value added tax on the prices offered, Poste Italiane would benefit from a significant competitive advantage by being able to formulate offers exempt from VAT”.
Due to the tax advantages it enjoys, Poste Italiane could formulate offers at a price that is at least 20% lower than its competitors. According to a ruling by the Court of Justice, however, individually negotiated services should be excluded from the VAT exemption.
