UEFA suspends Tavecchio for racist remarks: six-month stop

Decision taken after the phrase on the elusive "Opti Pobà" uttered on 25 July – The number one of the Legacalcio will not be able to represent Italy at the next UEFA congress or be eligible for management positions – Another blow to the image of our football.

UEFA suspends Tavecchio for racist remarks: six-month stop

Italy forgives, Europe does not. Federal President Carlo Tavecchio pays for the sensational sentences of last July 25, when, in front of the National Amateur League, he spoke of the elusive "Opti Pobà", who first "ate bananas" and now "plays for Lazio", while abroad, as if it were a dog, he must prove that he has the pedigree. For his words, the Federal President was suspended for 6 months by UEFA.

The accusation is of racism. That same racism that in Italy did not prevent Tavecchio (despite his not exactly clean pedigree), from being elected by a large majority as president of the FIGC, the highest executive in Italian football.

Racism, however, will prevent him from representing Italy at the next UEFA congress or from being eligible for any UEFA management position for the next 6 months.

Not a good figure, to be polite. And he? For the moment he has limited himself to accepting the sentence without commenting on it and without appealing. For Italian football, however, it is yet another demonstration that the worst is a bottomless pit. From here, you can't see the end.
