Italian fashion has the largest number of companies in Europe

The Italian Fashion Week, which began today in Milan, opens with some positive data for the sector, released by the Milan Chamber of Commerce. Tuscany and Lombardy are the first European regions for the number of fashion companies. And Italy with its 55 activities clearly surpasses France with 22 companies. A sector to focus on for the future.

Italian fashion has the largest number of companies in Europe

On the opening day of the 2013 edition of Milan Fashion Week, the news arrives that Tuscany and Lombardy are the first European regions in terms of number of fashion companies, each with 11 activities. A fact that testifies to the importance of the sector for Italy's image and competitiveness at European level.

In third place is Norte, in Portugal with around 10 businesses, fourth is Greek Attica with 8 almost on a par with the Ile de France, the Paris region. In sixth and seventh place, two other Italian regions, Veneto and Emilia Romagna, with around 6 businesses. Among the various countries, Italy far exceeds France with 55 businesses compared to 22 across the Alps.

And Milan, which today hosts big names on its catwalks, from Gucci to Marani, from Ferretti to Byblos, and which, in terms of number of companies is worth over a third of Lombardy, ranks among countries above Holland and of Belgium: it would be in 15th place, after Germany, Hungary and Sweden.

The data indicated above are the result of an elaboration by the Milan Chamber of Commerce, through the Lab Mim, on Eurostat 2013 data, disseminated on the occasion of today's welcome meeting at the Diana Majestic hotel which opens the fashion week. The meeting was organized by the Chamber of Fashion of which the Chamber of Commerce is an institutional partner.

The clearly positive estimates for Italian fashion allow Pier Andrea Chevallard, general secretary of the Milan Chamber of Commerce to affirm: "Fashion for Milan and for Italy represents an element of international attractiveness in which it is necessary to invest with a system logic , to strengthen the competitiveness of our businesses and our territory. Widespread entrepreneurial activities also play an important role for competitiveness in Europe and a significant factor of attraction for tourism as well”.
