The Champions League returns to Rai: exclusive agreement with Sky

The Champions League moves from Mediaset to Rai. From the next edition, the football matches of the top European club competition will be broadcast on public TV channels.

Rai and Sky, which holds the rights for the years 2018-2021, have signed an agreement which grants the first the exclusive rights in the clear "for the prime-time broadcast of the best match against an Italian club in the Wednesday round".

The agreement provides that Rai can broadcast the 2 semi-finals, the final and the challenge for the European Super Cup in August. The entire Champions League, live and exclusively, will be broadcast on Sky for the next three seasons.

Not only that, Rai has also announced its participation that in the next auction for the rights to the Italian Cup for the three-year period 2018/21 and the acquisition from Sky of the rights to broadcast the Italian motor racing Grand Prix in Monza, with tests and qualifications.

The TV rights for the 2020 European football championships will go to Murdoch's pay TV which will be held from 12 June to 12 July 2020: all 51 matches of the tournament will be live on Sky, 24 of which exclusively.
