It is the ninth time that two Italians have faced each other in a men's singles match at Wimbledon, the fourth in the last three years. It was the 26th all-Italian challenge in a Grand Slam tournament in the Open Era and the third this season, after Musetti's victory over Matthew Arnaldi in the first round of the Australian Open and that of Flavio Cobolli over the same Arnaldi in the second round of Roland Garros. Sinner has won all 15 matches played against Italian players on the major circuit, four of which in the Slams: against Gianluca Mager in the second round of Roland Garros 2021, against Sonego in the second round of the US Open 2023, against Berrettini in the second round of Wimbledon last year, and against Nardi today in the first round of Wimbledon.
