Istat: August inflation at 1,2%, slows down the "shopping cart" (+1,7%)

Last month Italian inflation it increased by 0,4% compared to July, while it remained stable at 1,2% year-on-year, even though the provisional estimate was +1,1%. This was announced today by Istat, specifying that the inflation acquired for 2013 rose to 1,4% from 1,2% in July.

In August, core inflation, calculated net of energy goods and unprocessed foodstuffs, rose to 1,2% (from +1,1% in the previous month). Net of energy goods alone, the trend growth of the consumer price index remains stationary at 1,3%.

The stability of inflation is the synthesis of opposite thrusts: on the one hand, the slowdowns in the trend dynamics of the prices of unregulated energy goods and unprocessed food goods, on the other the acceleration of the annual growth in the prices of services especially those relating to transport.

Instead, curb the so-called "shopping cart". The index that calculates the price trend of the most frequently purchased products grew on a trend basis by 1,7%, down by three tenths of a percentage point from the 2% of the previous month.
