A spokesman for the Greek government has had harsh words after the alarm raised by Standard & Poor's. And he re-proposed the possibility of creating a European rating agency.

Athens responds decisively to the alarm raised by the rating agency Standard & Poor's on Greek debt. "We certainly cannot pursue the hypotheses and conclusions of these entities which are speculative agencies", thundered a government spokesman". Already in recent months, Athens had accused the rating agencies of carrying out speculative manoeuvres. The spokesman then reiterated: "Our position on this agency is known, as are Greece's interventions with the European Commission for the creation of a European rating agency". A proposal that, however, is struggling to take off.
