The value was up in July but down from 3,8% in June. The expectations of analysts who envisaged a growth of 1,5% were disappointed.

Japan, industrial production grows but less than expected

Japanese industrial production rose 0,6% in July. The value, however positive, reveals a sharp slowdown if compared with the 6,2% recorded in May and the 3,8% in June. Furthermore, the figure is lower than expectations, which estimated a growth of 1,5%. This was stated this morning by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (METI) in Tokyo.

Also in July, deliveries increased by 0,2% compared to June, while inventories decreased by 0,2% compared to the previous month. The sectors that drove the growth were the automotive and auto components sectors.

According to a government survey, Japan's main manufacturing producers expect growth of 2,8% for August and a decline of 2,4% in September.
