The FS Italiane have reopened, together with their infrastructure company, RFI, a section of the Rome railway ring inaugurated in the year of the Soccer Italia '90 World Cup and which had been closed for 32 years. 

Today 13 June the Trenitalia regional trains are in fact back to travel the more than 7 km that connect the station of Vigna Clara with Valle Aurelia and then, after another kilometer and a half, with Roma San Pietro. “An event that, considering the wait, defining historic is not at all exaggerated”, comments the company on FS News, explaining that "the railway service launched today has a regional character but its utility is purely urban and metropolitan, connecting an important quadrant of northern Rome with the Metro Line A and then, after having touched the stations of Quattro Venti and Roma Trastevere , reaching Roma Ostiense where travelers can get on the Metro B”. 

The first service of Regional Trenitalia left at 7.42 of this morning. The current offer includes 18 daily connections on weekdays with six pairs of trains to S. Pietro and three to Roma Ostiense.

The activation of the line and the reopening of Vigna Clara comes one year after the new top management of the FS Group took office and one month after the launch of the new business plan.

And this is how its managing director, Vera Fiorani, comments on the event: “We have never stopped and finally today we can reactivate the route and open the doors to a completely renovated station. Now our commitment is to realize the doubling of the Valle Aurelia-Vigna Clara section [today with a single track ed] for the Jubilee of 2025 and progressively the closure of the railway ring, with the continuation of the line towards Val d'Ala and Nomentana ”, she explained.

The total investment for the construction of the Vigna Clara station was approx 6,1 million euros. “The restyling of the station has completely modified and renovated the passenger building, creating primary and secondary services for travellers, redeveloping the platforms serving the trains, replacing the lifts, modernizing the technological rooms, the lighting systems and the signage, allowing the usability of transport services to all citizens, without barriers and with ease”, let the Railways know.
