FS buys the Greek Trainose

FS Italiane have acquired Trainose, the main railway operator in Greece, for 45 million euros. The operation was finalized in the ambit of the Italy-Greece bilateral summit which took place today in Corfu. It is the first summit between the two premiers, Paolo Gentiloni and Alexis Tsipras.

“Today's closing is a further important step in the international expansion process of the FS group, as envisaged in the 2017-2026 business plan,” commented Renato Mazzoncini, CEO and general manager of FS. With the acquisition, the group becomes the first operator in Greece and is also well positioned in the rest of Europe: second in Germany and present with mixed subsidiaries also in Great Britain, France and Holland. The Group's overseas operations are currently worth approximately 17% of revenues on an annual basis. The goal "is to go from one to four billion in turnover by 2026" concluded Mazzoncini.

Trainose provides freight and passenger transport services on a suburban, regional, national and international level, including logistics services. In 2016 it transported 15,6 million people, of which 10,1 million in the suburban area and 5,5 million in the regional area, and 1,1 million tons of goods, with around 120 million in revenues and a profit of 3,3 .2013 million euros: since XNUMX the company has been in economic equilibrium.
