Fiat inaugurates the new plant in China

In Changsha in the Hunan province, the managing director of the Lingotto Sergio Marchionne inaugurated the production start-up of the Fiat Viaggio which will be the first model produced in the Asian country – The plant is part of the joint venture agreement with the Chinese car manufacturer GAC.

Everything is ready to produce the Fiat Viaggio, the first Lingotto car Made in China. If on the one hand the Turin-based car manufacturer continues its climb into Chrysler, on the other it is increasingly aimed at the Asian market. Indeed today Fiat inaugurated in Changsha, in Hunan Province (China), the new plant of over 730 square meters of the Gac-Fiat joint venture. The CEO of the Group, Sergio Marchionne and, among others, the general manager of Gac-Fiat, Jack Cheng, celebrated the production launch of the Fiat Viaggio, the first model produced entirely in China

THEjoint venture agreement with Gac, the sixth producer of cars, buses and industrial vehicles in China, was signed in March 2012 and foresees a total investment of 5 billion Chinese renminbi which should lead to the production of at least 100 cars in 2013. 

The new plant adopts the World Class Manufacturing standards, the international methodology for organizing the production cycle common to all Fiat and Chrysler plants to manage factories according to the best standards worldwide.

A few minutes after the opening of Piazza Affari, the Fiat share is in positive territory with a +0,60% to 3,716 euros per share.
