Eni scores another important coup: it is awarded the North Ganal block in Indonesia

Eni wins the North Ganal block in Indonesia: the Production Sharing Contract will be signed within the year.

The consortium, which includes Niko Resources Ltd., Black Platinum Energy Ltd, Statoil ASA and GDF SUEZ, has obtained the assignment of the North Ganal block, located offshore off East Kalimantan, Indonesia and extends for 2.432 square kilometers within the Kutei basin, an extremely prolific area from the point of view of the presence of hydrocarbons which has recorded several "giant" discoveries, already in production.

This result confirms Eni's significant commitment to E&P activities in Indonesia and is part of a series of successes which includes the recent and important Jangkrik NE discovery, in the offshore Kutei Basin (Muara Bakau PSC), located near the North Ganal. Eni, present in Indonesia since 2001, holds 12 permits in the country, 6 of which as operator, located in the Tarakan and Kutei oil fields (East Borneo), North Sumatra of West Timor.

Eni also participates in the development of large gas reserves located in the blocks of Ganal and Rapak, located in the Kutei basin. Eni is also active in the Mahakam Delta region where it is operator, through the affiliate VICO Ltd (Eni 50%, BP 50%), of the Sanga Sanga field which provides a production net to Eni of approximately 20.000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

In the same area, through its subsidiary VICO CBM (Eni 50%, BP 50%) Eni recently obtained the assignment of a license for the exploration and production of unconventional gas (CBM or coal-bed methane). Also in this case the gas, if the project is successful, will be liquefied at the Bontang plant, representing the first case in the world of supplying a LNG plant with CBM.
