Venice Biennale, Palazzo Bembo hosts Beat Kuert in FaultLine / TimeLine.

A historic residence in the heart of Venice transformed into a casket where, thanks to contemporary art, space and time expand towards other dimensions. From 9 May to 22 November 2015 Palazzo Bembo hosts Beat Kuert in FaultLine / TimeLine.

Venice Biennale, Palazzo Bembo hosts Beat Kuert in FaultLine / TimeLine.

The site-specific installation is included in the collective project Personal Structures / Crossing Borders, side event to the 56th Art Biennale produced by the Global Art Affairs Foundation and made with dust&scratches pictures and scenes.

Born as a film director, an experimenter of the avant-garde images and frontier languages, Kuert takes possession of one of the magnificent rooms overlooking the Rialto Bridge, abstracting it from sensible reality and shaping it into the form of a dream box, where the laws of space and time bend to those of sensible perception, in an osmotic exchange between the work and the spectator. Indulging on an aspect of strong and instinctive empathy between the image and whoever uses it; with aesthetic and formal references to pictorialism which, at the end of the XNUMXth century, narrowed the conceptual distances between photography and the traditional arts.

Beat Kurt acts on real space with an approach multilayer, which corresponds to his desire to touch multiple types of expression, in the convergence between Eastern mysticism and the post-romantic tradition of Central European matrix: large format paintings with a deep material and gestural charge overlap creating hypnotic visual labyrinths; the same ones that seduce and at the same time disturb in the video installations that expand the exhibition space to infinity.

Una FaultLine, a physical and at the same time ideal rift, crosses the walls and the floor of the hall of Palazzo Bembo in which Beat Kuert acts; a Timeline it flows in the form of video images along three screens placed on the floor, onto which the paintings appear. The visual imagery is oriented towards German expressionist cinema, with particular reference to Metropolis by Fritz Lang, orchestrating a portrait of the present that arises from the critique of contemporary society; with the urban space and its architectures that are transformed into theatrical backdrops for the representation of Chaos.
