Bayer wants to buy Monsanto for 62 billion dollars. This was communicated by the chemical-pharmaceutical group which presented an offer, all in cash, to acquire the US agrochemical company. This is the largest offer from a German company for a foreign group. After the long tam tam of rumors and partial admissions, therefore, Bayer has decided to unveil the hostile takeover launched against the American prey.

Bayer, which confirmed it entered talks last week with Monsanto over the acquisition, said the $122-per-share offer represents “a substantial premium'” for Monsanto and shareholders, 37 percent more than the company's closing share price on May 9, the day before the offer proposal presented to the American company.

Bayer has specified that it will finance the agreement with a combination of capital and debt, including a capital increase equal to approximately 25% of the total value of the transaction.
