Italy "is not at year zero of liberalisation, but halfway there". This was stated by the president of the Antitrust, Giovanni Pitruzzella, on the sidelines of the conference on competition organized by the Rucellai & Raffaelli studio in Treviso. According to Pitruzzella the government plan for ultra-broadband will be "the main factor of innovation" in the country.
But above all, the president of the Authority today opened a series of speeches by over 40 speakers from all over the world on competition issues, the new protagonists of the digital economy, such as Uber or Airbnb, bring "benefits" to consumers and must be included in a "light" regulatory framework.
“The Antitrust – said Pitruzzella – is certainly in favor of innovation processes, which pass through the digital economy. The new platforms, such as Uber and Airbnb, like the whole world of the so-called 'sharing economy', are bringing benefits to consumers, in terms of choice and efficient services. Of course this creates conflicts with those who work in traditional sectors, but conflicts should probably be resolved not by killing the new realities, which must be guaranteed, but by introducing rules that protect certain interests, such as driving safety for example. However, the regulation must be light, made up of few rules and clear".
