Bonus TV alarm, scrapping broken down. Ko sales

The dizzying increase in requests to replace old televisions and decoders to be scrapped is sending the system into a tailspin. The sector associations are asking Minister Cingolani for new measures. Here are which ones

Bonus TV alarm, scrapping broken down. Ko sales

The great success of the TV scrapping bonus and the TV-decoder bonus, which in a very short time exceeded 1,3 million disbursements, risks becoming a serious problem for the entire supply chain with the probable blocking of the entire operation, including sales, because the collection and transfer of the appliances has broken down. Collection, sorting and transport points are clogged. Without any sign of response to the requests of the sector associations that preside over the sale, collection and transfer of TVs and decoders to the platforms from Rome, from the Ministry for Ecological Transition.

CdC WEEE, Aires, ANCRA, Federdistribuzione, AssoRAEE and Assorecuperi, in fact, twice, on 29 October and, recently, on 25 November, reported to the Minister for Ecological Transition, Roberto Cingolani, the now unsustainable difficulties in supporting and to manage the flows of discarded appliances. "The imminent adoption of the new standards - declared the associations - together with the availability of tax incentive measures for the scrapping of unsuitable products, made available to the public only starting from the end of last August, has led, in the last weeks, a huge and extraordinary increase in flows WEEE generated in Grouping 3, flows that have exceeded the ordinarily managed volumes by more than 80% to date”.

The alarm raised by the associations risks having a particularly heavy conclusion since the classic period of promotions and mega shopping with the Black Friday and the month of December will involve a further impressive flow of appliances to be treated. Result? Once the quantitative limits of authorized WEEE have been reached, the plant managers will have to deny entry of the TVs to be treated by blocking the entire system, starting with sales, a hypothesis considered very probable and which will unleash chaos with unpredictable consequences. What did the WEEE associations urgently ask and now ask the government to avoid this national emergency? It will seem incredible but a very simple provision, namely that, exceptionally and limited to the period considered necessary, the raising of the limits of the quantities and of the maximum permitted storage times envisaged for the treatment plants, for the grouping places managed by the distribution and for municipal collection centers for WEEE.
