Tony Atkinson, an influential British economist and chairman of the Luxembourg Income Study, has died at the age of 73.
A professor of political economy at Cambridge University, Atkinson was governor of Nuffield College, University of Oxford from 1994 to 2005, as well as president of the Royal Economic Society, the Econometric Society, the European Economic Association and the International Economic Association.
His research has focused predominantly on income distributions and poverty. He is the author of numerous publications and books, including "Per un nuovo welfare state", translated into Italian and published by Laterza in 1998.
