Zalando focuses on the Italian market and opens a 20 thousand square meter warehouse in Stradelle in the province of Pavia. What will be opened in Lombardy will be the first warehouse of the well-known German e-commerce site outside the borders of Germany. The project aims to serve Italian customers even faster and to respond to the growing demand related to the e-commerce sector in the Italian market.

The project to open the Zalando satellite warehouse in Italy is in partnership with Fiege, a company that provides logistics services and makes the warehouse in the province of Pavia available.

The group of German ecommerce specialist in the sale of clothing and footwear explains that the procurement of goods has already begun and that a first test phase for deliveries is already scheduled for January 2016. The pilot project represents the first move by Zalando towards an expansion of its network: Zalando currently has 3 logistics centers in Germany and is building a fourth in the south of the country.

“In the four years since the launch of Zalando.it we have seen the enthusiasm of Italian consumers grow steadily. This is the result of continuous improvements made to the service, always taking into account the needs of our customers. The Italian market has great potential and the opening of a dedicated warehouse will allow us to accelerate the path towards an even higher level of service”, says Giuseppe Tamola, country manager Italy of Zalando.

The group, on the other hand, is in an expansive phase and the numbers relating to the third quarter prove it given that the turnover, in the period between July and September, grew by 42,2% to 713,1 million euros. In the first nine months of this year, Zalando's turnover increased by 34,9% to 2,1 billion euros, slightly lower than the turnover for the full year 2014.

For this year the German group, which has about 10 employees, expects to close with a turnover of around 3 billion euros.
