Vodafone and Open Fiber bring super fiber to 7.635 municipalities

There will be 7.635 municipalities in the "white areas" covered by the ultra-broadband services of Vodafone and Open Fiber. This was established by a new agreement between the two groups, which expands the existing partnership in 271 Italian cities to include municipalities located in so-called market failure areas, where the company led by Elisabetta Ripa is building the fiber optic network (FTTH , the one that arrives directly at home from the plant, so to speak ) following the awarding of the Infratel tenders.

Simply put, according to the new agreement, ultrabroadband services will extend along the entire perimeter of the Open Fiber cabling plan and will be able to cover over 19 million property units.

“The FTTH network that Open Fiber is building in a large part of the national territory, entirely in optical fiber, makes it possible to offer connectivity services with a speed of up to 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps) and maximum performance in terms of reliability and latency ”, reads the joint note of the two companies. Thanks to today's agreement, Vodafone will therefore be able to exploit the potential of the Open Fiber network, making connectivity services with ultra broadband technology available to its consumer and business customers, even in white areas.

The first commercial experiments between Open Fiber and Vodafone on the fiber have already started in 4 municipalities: Anguillara Sabazia (RM), Campagnano di Roma (RM), Fino Mornasco (CO) and San Giovanni La Punta (CT).

In this context, Vodafone and Open Fiber have announced their intention to evaluate the possible extension of the commercial experimentation to around 100 Municipalities in areas C and D throughout Italy.
