The announcement was made during the night (Italian time) by the President himself Joe Biden: “Tonight – he said – I and Speaker McCarthy reached an agreement on the public debt ceiling.
With great realism, Biden added that it is "a compromise and therefore not everyone will get what they wanted".
Despite all the limitations that every compromise has in itself, Biden nevertheless underlined the fact that the agreement "is good news for the Americans". And it certainly is because it avoids blocking all the expenditure activities of the public administration.
The agreement was in the air: every year we get to the tug of war on the debt between Democrats and Republicans in which everyone tries to pull the rope on his side but then the stakes recommend moderation and wisdom. And so it was this time too, to the great relief of all of America and to the satisfaction of the Stock Exchanges, which see a big unknown for the markets disappearing from the horizon and are preparing to celebrate tomorrow morning.
