US inflation accelerates in May. Consumer prices rose by 0,4% compared to the previous month, marking the largest increase since February 2013. The figure released by the Commerce Department is higher than the expectations of analysts who expected a slowdown to +0,2% after +0,3% in April.

Net of volatile components such as energy and food, the increase was 0,3%. On an annual basis, consumer prices grew by 2,1% in May, the highest level since October 2012, while the core data recorded +2%. In April, consumer prices showed growth of 1,6% on an annual basis. Meanwhile in the Italian afternoon Wall Street opens negative.
