A bike as small as an umbrella: the latest Made in Italy invention

This could be the beginning of the end for bike thieves. By 2015, in fact, a model of bike without spokes in the wheels will enter the market, which folds back on itself and is reduced to the size of an umbrella. It will be all in aluminium, weigh less than 10 kilos and is the result of Made in Italy creativity.

The inventor and creator of the prototype of this new super-portable bike is Gianluca Sada, a 31-year-old engineer born in Battipaglia, in the province of Salerno. Thanks to the collaboration with the Tonno Foundries and Mechanical Workshops and with the Innovative Business Incubator of the Turin Polytechnic, Sadabike is today an innovative start-up.

“The idea came from watching a child playing with one of those toys that are no longer used – explained Sada – an old toy made up of a very simple wheel pushed by a rod. The wheel didn't have spokes, and from there I thought that the key to resolving the link between portability and usability was to revolutionize the rim".
