“Eleven months ago I inherited a mess, but I'm fixing it.” This is how US President Donald Trump began the long-awaited address to the nation on the evening of Wednesday 17 DecemberThe tycoon had announced his intervention on the eve of the election, amid yet another threat to Venezuela, and had hinted that he would take stock of the first year of his second term, which began last January. And so it was: Trump had something for everyone. "We were overrun with illegal immigrants, transgender people in women's sports, we had the worst trade agreements," he explained. "Now, however, you have a president who fights for Americans, and we've already achieved great results."

"A year ago the Country was dead, failed – continued the US president –. Not anymore, partly thanks to tariffs, which are my favorite word”. The tariffs, Trump explained from Washington, have contributed to billions of investments, approximately 18 trillion dollars. Although the tariffs have also contributed to the increase in the prices of some products, the tycoon failed to admit it, arguing instead that “prices are falling rapidly, there is still work to be done but we have made progress”, said the president, referring to the high inflation that Americans continue to complain about. “Wages are rising very rapidly”, he added, also citing a symbolic (and unverified) figure: a 33% reduction in costs for the traditional Thanksgiving holidayIn particular, Trump cited the price of turkey as tangible proof of citizens' newfound purchasing power.

Donald Trump then announced that an extra check will be sent to nearly one and a half million military personnel before Christmas. $1.776, as a “warrior dividend,”The so-called warrior dividend is no coincidence; it recalls the founding year of the United States, celebrating the bond between the White House and the armed forces. "America is back and stronger than ever," Trump claimed, describing a patriotic and economic resurgence that, he said, would make the United States the envy of the entire world. The president described a country once again respected internationally and deeply loyal to its citizens.

The speech then touched on the hot topics of monetary policy and investments, with the announcement that a new Federal Reserve chairman will be appointed next year. Trump clarified the profile of Jerome Powell's successor, stressing that "he will be a figure firmly convinced of the need to keep interest rates low to foster growth." On the foreign front, this new American assertiveness is reflected in the total naval blockade imposed against Venezuela, described as a necessary measure to recover resources misappropriated from the United States.
