Toyota recalls nearly 3 million cars

Toyota called back 2,87 million cars in the world to fix an issue with the rear seat belts, which could become damaged with the metal frame in a crash.

The recall concerns the 4×4 Rav4 model made between July 2005 and August 2014, and the SUV Vanguard produced between October 2005 and January 2016, the latter sold only in Japan. In detail, 1,33 million vehicles were tested in the United States, the most affected country, 625.000 in Europe (of which just over 66 in France alone), 434.000 in China and 177.000 in Japan.

The Japanese company explained that it is a precautionary move: "In some vehicles, in the event of a frontal accident at high speed, the metal structure of the rear seat it could come in contact with the seat belt webbing and cut it“, explains the company in a statement, underlining that “only under these conditions, the belt cannot properly restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of injury in an accident”.
