A bullfighter in Spain has died. His name was Victor Marrio, he was 29 years old, he was from Segovia and he was gored at least four times by a bull during a bullfight in a Teruel bullring, in Aragon. The butts hit the matador in the lungs and the immediate help of the doctors was useless.
A matador had not lost his life during a bullfight since 1985, when José 'El Yiyo' Cubero, 21 years old but already successful, took a fatal goring to the heart in Colmenar Viejo, near Madrid, as he prepared to kill his second bull of the day.
But the young bullfighter was not the only man to lose his life yesterday, gored by a bull. Another 28-year-old Spaniard died in Pedreguer, near Valencia, during a 'vaquilla', a sort of race with young bulls in which it is traditional for several boys to demonstrate their courage by challenging the animals' horns.
The young man was shot in the lung and died shortly after in hospital. Last year another boy was killed by a butt during the Fiesta of San Buenaventura, also in Pedreguer. In 1992, two banderilleros, Manolo Montoliu and Ramon Soto Vargas, died in a bullring during a bullfight in Seville.
