Summer sales down sharply compared to last year, Federconsumatori accuses the manoeuvre

Only one in three households is able to spend. For merchants, the turnover is meager: 1,85 billion euros. Expectations – claims the consumers' association – will continue to worsen due to the impact on incomes of government policies.

Summer sales down sharply compared to last year, Federconsumatori accuses the manoeuvre

Nail summer sales. Federconsumatori defines the first final balance of purchases at reduced prices of the season as "disastrous", down by 9,5% compared to last year. Only one in three households buys and the average expenditure per household is 134 euros. For traders, this is a meager turnover of 1,85 billion in all.

The consumers' association speaks of "the extreme difficulty of families, who are increasingly unable to make purchases, not even during sales". Furthermore - claims Federconsumatori -, the situation is not destined to improve given the negative effect of the financial package on expectations, which "get worse day by day". “It is time for the government – concludes the association – to open its eyes to this situation and correct it, correcting the maneuver and arranging measures aimed at relaunching the purchasing power of fixed-income households, instead of further reducing it with tragic consequences for the whole economy”.
