SABMiller launches hostile takeover bid on Foster's for $10bn

SABMiller continues its war to conquer Australian rival Foster's. The world's second largest beer producer, which also controls the Peroni and Nastro Azzurro brands and is one of the main bottlers of Coca-Cola products, has launched a 10 billion dollar hostile offer directly to the shareholders of the Australian group.

The terms of the takeover bid are the same as the friendly offer which the English beer producer had offered last June 21st and which the board of directors of Foster's had rejected because it was too low: 4,90 Australian dollars per share.

Foster's, which controls the Carlton and United Breweries beers, is thus valued at around 7 billion euros. According to some rumors, Japanese beer producer Asahi Breweries may also be about to make an offer to Foster's.
