Pirelli, Digital Solutions Center: the new center for the development of software and digital solutions has been inaugurated in Bari

It was inaugurated yesterday Pirelli Digital Solutions Center (DSC) in Bari, first development center entirely, born with the aim of enriching internal skills on the most strategic areas for Pirelli.
Il Pirelli center it was announced last May and it is already operational.

The first 11 employees are already employed for the ssoftware and algorithm development which will be used in the most advanced design, manufacturing and marketing processes of the group's tires all over the world.
A total of 50 new hires are expected by 2025 among recent graduates and managers specialized in software development, in particular in computer science, software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning and smart manufacturing.

Digital Solutions Center Pirelli: projects and strategies to optimize production

Among the projects under development in Digital Solutions Center Pirelli there is the enhancement of the Big Data platform for the collection, transformation and analysis of all data of the corporate ecosystem. This tool allows the development of algorithms to accelerate product development times, further improve their quality, maximize machinery efficiency, optimize commercial effectiveness and create new digital services.

Furthermore, thanks to the Industrial Internet of Things it will be possible to optimize the supply chain through predictive models of demand and improve production processes, predicting maintenance interventions on machinery with benefits in terms of costs and development times and savings on energy consumption and processing costs.

Present a Innovation room, a space that allows real virtual co-working between Bari employees and the approximately 500 people of the Pirelli Digital team at a global level, as well as interaction with the Pirelli Headquarters, its 18 plants in the Pirelli world, the suppliers, customers and the various university centers with which the company collaborates in open innovation projects and exchanges of expertise.

Partnerships with university poles

An important role in the center is also played by theUniversity of Bari and the Polytechnic University of Bari with an area intended to also host the work teams of the two university centres, which have among their excellences the training of new skills in the digital world. The goal of the projects with the two universities is to optimize production processes of factories through the development of smart manufacturing systems and to support digitization and artificial intelligence in the various stages of tire design.

The collaboration program with the two universities also provides for some courses with the presence of Pirelli managers, and the creation of others research and development projects and initiatives such as career days, seminars and hackathons, as well as internship programs, traineeships and research doctorate funding.

The development of the DSC consolidates the ties between Pirelli and the university world and strengthens its open innovation model which today sees the company working on around 58 projects with 12 universities.

Tronchetti Provera: We wanted to create a place where new resources and young talents would contribute to the digital transformation of Pirelli

He attended the inauguration of the center Marco Tronchetti Provera, Executive Vice President and CEO of Pirelli: “When an idea takes shape in a short time, it is always a source of pride. We wanted to create a place where new resources and young talent contribute to digital transformation of Pirelli, the basis of making industry today. Now this place exists and is fully participating in the projects that our Digital team carries out all over the world. I thank the Puglia Region and the city of Bari for having contributed to making all this possible, and the universities of Bari for making their skills and knowledge available for a project that allows the valorisation of the entire Apulian territory and Italian industry in the world".

Michele Emiliano, President of the Puglia Region, “The challenge of digital transformation and innovation that the whole country is facing finds Puglia ready and protagonist.
The Digital Solutions Center that we are inaugurating today thanks to the public-private synergy that has favored and accelerated this important investment by Pirelli testifies to the ability of the Puglia Region to look to the future and to focus on innovative sectors capable of involving and making Puglia's human capital grow. Our students, our young people can thus strengthen their skills and build their own life project in their land".

“It is an honor for our city to host the Digital Solutions Center of a company and a brand as prestigious in the world as Pirelli is today. We are certain that this new settlement will contribute to the growth of our territory both in terms of skills and resources and in terms of an attractive ranking towards other investors who will follow the same path. In recent years, it was precisely the first investments that attracted new companies and fostered new research developments so as to make Bari today the seventh hub for attracting investments in the IT sector in Italy. I think this result is an important first milestone for a southern city that nobody knew until a few years ago and which is working to enhance skills and talents who are finally not forced to leave here but can also choose to return” he added Antonio DeCaro, Mayor of Bari.
