A strong perturbation of Atlantic origin is hitting Italy, first in the North but now also in the Centre-South, with particular intensity on Sunday, when snowfalls are expected in the Alpine sectors and strong winds from the southern quadrants throughout the country. On the basis of the forecasts available, the Civil Protection Department, in agreement with the regions involved, has issued a notice of adverse weather conditions, with yellow alert in 15 Regions. These are practically all the Regions except Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige, Sardinia, Val d'Aosta and Liguria.
Snowfalls are expected in the Alpine sectors of northern Piedmont, Lombardy and Friuli Venezia Giulia, with snow level initially above 1200-1400 meters, decreasing up to 800-1000 meters, especially in the western Alpine sectors, with contributions to the soil from moderate to locally abundant. From the early hours of Sunday 7 February, the notice also forecasts scattered rainfall, including downpours or thunderstorms, over northern Tuscany, the Emilian Apennines, Umbria, eastern and southern Lazio, Campania and the western sectors of Abruzzo and Molise, extending from afternoon in Tyrrhenian Basilicata and central-western Sicily.
The phenomena will be accompanied by rvomiting of strong intensity, frequent electrical activity and strong gusts of wind. The notice provides strong to gale force winds from the southern quadrants with gusts up to strong storms, on Puglia and internal and mountainous sectors of Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Marche, Umbria, Lazio, Abruzzo, Molise and Sicily, especially on the northern sectors. On the basis of the expected and ongoing phenomena, a yellow alert was therefore assessed in Piedmont, Lombardy, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Marche, Umbria, Lazio, Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Basilicata, Calabria, Puglia and Sicily.
