The railways turn pink: Rfi launches "Girls at work"

Who said railroads are a man's job? Rfi, the Italian railway network, has just launched the “Girls at work” project: thirty-five girls who have recently graduated from technical institutes they will be sent on an internship for three months to discover the world of maintenance of the national railway network.

The internship is paid and will be focused precisely on the more technical jobs, usually reserved for male workers: the main production processes, the management of railway traffic and above all network and plant maintenance. The Girls at Work students, who graduated in 2017 and were selected from Italian technical institutes, have recently started training courses and visits to the plants, accompanied by specialized engineers and technicians, who are real tutors for them.

The experience will end in January 2018, with the presentation of a project work dedicated to the technical topic addressed by the girls during the months of training. The program therefore aims at bringing the female universe closer to the railway trades, historically considered male, and is part of the Women in Motion campaign, promoted by the FS Italiane Group to increase the culture of diversity management and the presence of women in the technical areas of the Group companies. Initiative that is registering good results: since the beginning of the WIM campaign in fact, the number of female candidates has increased by 50%., sent through the official channels of the Group, by girls with a technical diploma.
