Modern Asian art conquers Hong Kong: the Sotheby's auction is a success

Asian modern art, like European and American art, surpasses interest in the contemporary: 41 million against 11 million euros in sales in Hong Kong - The Top Lot: "Lee man Fong Fortune and Longevity" awarded to over 3 million Euros, and the 1939 painting by Romualdo Frederico Locatelli "Gambuh Dancer" with 621 thousand Euros.

Modern Asian art as well as European and American ones outnumber the interest in the contemporary, 41 million against 11 million euros in sales in Hong Kong. More and more Asian collectors are approaching art, competing for Asian works of any kind until they reach unthinkable prices, a sign of a market in full growth and development where there is certainly no shortage of great collectors and investors.

So it ended Hong Kong the week of auctions of Sotheby's dedicated to the art of this continent, and to name a few starting from the auction Modern Contemporary Southeast Asian Painting, a total of awards was reached equal to 12 million with Top Lots: Lee man Fong Fortune and Longevity awarded to over 3 million euros, and the 1939 painting by Romualdo Frederico Locatelli Gambuh Dancer with 621 thousand Euros, an artist born in Bergamo in 1905.

The auction 20th Century Chinese Art ended with 19 million euros with the first three Top Lots millionaires: the painting depicting a vase with chrysanthemums, oil on masonite by Sanyu (Chang Yu) Potted Chrysanthemumus (estimate 1.872.168-2.814.252 EUR) and awarded to 2.898.679 EUR; another oil on canvas painting by Chu Teh-Chun (Zhu Dequn) Complexité Hivernale awarded to 2.058.156 EUR and the work of Zao Wou-Ki (Zhao Wuji) awarded to 1.427.764 EUR.

While for Contemporary Art: Contemporary Asian Art sees a total of over 11 million euros and several sold beyond estimate such as i Top Lots : the painting of Zhang Xiaogang Tiananmen no.1 awarded to 1.953.091 EUR; oil on canvas by Liuwei Revolutionary Family Series - Imitation to dinner, awarded to 1.637,894; while with two positions we find Zheng Fanzhi Fire awarded to 789.866 EUR e Untitled of 2000 awarded to 621.00 EUR and again Liu Ye The Pope Rescues small pig, acrylic on canvas from 2001 awarded to  508.441 EUR. Not negligible authors such as: Fang Ljiung, Ding Yi, Zhou Khunya, Yue Minjun and Yang Shaobin.

Even more interest in the auction Fine Chinese Paintings comparable to the period of European modern art where the 41 million euros with I Top Lots: Zhang Daquian (Chang Dai Chien) Swiss peaks:Calligraphy in Xingshu, awarded to 2.301.000 EUR; fu baoshi Lady at the Pavilion awarded to 2.300.000 EUR; Xie Zhiliu lotuspond, awarded to 1.630,500 EUR; Zhang Daquian (Chang Dai-Chien) awarded for EUR 1.500.000; still Zhang Daquian Magnificent lotus, awarded to 1.295.000 EUR; fu baoshi Landscape After Shitao, awarded to 1.183.000 EUR; Lin Fengmian Cockscomb, awarded to 1.015.000 EUR.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the auctions of objects and ceramics which have achieved very important results. Qing Imperial Monochromes from the JM Hu Collection with 8.500.000 EUR; Exceptional Qing porcelain from the Collection of Dr Alice Cheng with 6.100.000 EUR; The Meiyintang Collection, part IV – An important Selection of Imperial Chinese Porcelains with 9.300.000 EUR; Fine Chinese Ceramics & Works of Art with 37.600.000 EUR
