France confirms: ECB ready to intervene on Italian and Spanish debt

Given "efforts in the right direction", the European Central Bank will back the debt of Rome and Madrid, should investors backtrack. The confirmation comes this morning from François Baroin, the new French minister of the Economy.

France confirms: ECB ready to intervene on Italian and Spanish debt

The green light is confirmed: the European Central Bank is ready to support the debt of Spain and Italy, if "investors were to withdraw". French Economy Minister François Baroin reiterated this this morning in a radio interview.

 

The new measures envisaged by the two governments, Baroin said, "allow the ECB to legitimately help the two countries, given their efforts in the right direction".
