Istat: inflation remained stable in May

At +2,6%, it remains the record level since November 2008 – But the shopping cart flies at a faster rate (+3,5%) – The biggest increases for food, catering and furniture

   The annual inflation rate in Italy remained stable in May, at +2,6%. This is the same level recorded in April, which is to say the highest value since November 2008.

   On a monthly basis, the increase in consumer prices was 0,1%, while the inflation acquired for 2001, the one that would be recorded at the end of the year if the index remained at the same level as in May over the coming months, is equal at 2,3%. As for the various sectors, the biggest monthly increases concern food products and soft drinks (+0,7%), accommodation and restaurant services (+0,5%) and finally furniture, items and services for the home (+0,2%). The clearest drops, however, concern health services and health expenditure (-0,4%), transport and recreation and entertainment and culture (both sectors +0,2%).

   As for the shopping cart, it has seen an above-average price increase. For the set of products most frequently purchased (from food to fuel) growth was 3,5% on an annual basis against the inflation rate which, as we have seen, stopped at +2,6% .
