Immigration: Italy - Libya agreement to reduce landings

Italy and Libya have signed an agreement relating to the launch of urgent measures aimed at managing the migratory phenomenon. Palazzo Chigi communicates it in a note.

The statement reads that: "The Libyan Government of National Accord and the Italian Government, as part of the collaboration to combat the phenomenon of illegal immigration, today agreed on urgent measures also to reduce the risk of new humanitarian tragedies" .

The agreement would concern a series of initiatives that will be implemented "through the establishment of an Interministerial Commission and a joint Operations Room, aimed at effectively controlling and reducing the phenomenon".

We recall that during the last week the arrivals of migrants have intensified again thanks to favorable weather conditions, with thousands of people landed on the Italian coasts.
