FS Group: awarded to Rizzani De Eccher the works for the connection with the Venice airport

Italian Railway Network (FS Group Italiane) has awarded the works for the construction of the Railway connection with the airport Marco Polo of Venice. The works have been assigned to the group of companies which it sees as the lead partner Rizzani De Eccher and as principals Manelli Company e Sacaim.

The tender has a value of over 428 million euros, also financed with funds from the PNRR.

“The project – explains the press release of the FS group – is aimed at encouraging the modal shift on rail for passengers heading to the Venice airport and is part of the strategy of RFI and the FS Group for the development of rail connections with the airports, favoring intermodality and the relaunch of tourism. Furthermore, the construction sites will be completed in time for the start of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

For the completion of the work he was appointed as Extraordinary Government Commissioner Vincenzo Macello, Deputy General Manager Network Management Infrastructures of RFI.

The interventions of the new railway line

The interventions consist in the creation of a new railway line double track of about 8 km, of which 3,4 in tunnel, which will connect Venice at Marco Polo airport. The connection will start from the line Mestre-Trieste, will flank the motorway link for the airport and, in the tunnel, will arrive at Marco Polo, where the construction of a two-track underground station connected to the airport terminal is planned. At the station exit, a single track rejoins the surface section, allowing for reduced stationing times in the terminal and ensuring greater capacity for both regional and high-speed trains.
