Greece, Parliament approves the implementation law for austerity and privatizations

The Greek parliament has given the green light to the five-year maneuver of spending cuts and privatisations, as per agreements with the EU and the IMF. The release of the 12 billion euro loan by the international partners was conditional on the containment of Athens' public deficit with new fiscal measures. The Economy Minister, Venizelos, welcomed the outcome of the vote with optimism, noting that "a new phase of hope is opening up for Greece".
