The unemployment rate in Great Britain rises to its highest level since the first quarter of 2010: in the period April-June 2011 it jumped to 7,9%, compared to 7,7% in the first quarter of the current year. This was communicated by the British Institute of Statistics. In the UK, the number of jobless thus reaches 2,5 million. Unemployment is particularly invasive among the youngest, with a rate exceeding 20%.
In general, applicants for subsidies grew by 37.100 units, the largest monthly increase since May 2009 (they are 4,9% of the active population). The figures are worse than analysts' expectations, who predicted a stable unemployment rate at 7,7%, with 4,8% of the active population claiming benefits.
