Gazprom: profit halved in the second quarter, but better than expected

The Russian gas giant Gazprom has closed the second quarter of the year with a 50% drop in net profit to 150,8 billion rubles (about 3,7 billion euros) and front of a turnover down by 2,4% to 1.005 billion rubles (24,8 billion euros). However, both data are higher than the expectations of analysts, who predicted a worse decline.

In the first six months, net profit fell by 34% to 508 billion rubles (about 12,5 billion euros) on sales down 5% to 2.230 billion rubles (55,1 billion euros). In the first six months, the group recorded gas sales down 15% to 1.244 billion rubles (30,7 billion euros) while gas deliveries to the “Europe and other countries” area decreased by 1% in value to 731 billion rubles (18 billion euros) and 10% in volume. The decline in volumes, Gazprom points out, was largely compensated by an increase in prices.
