After the purchase in 2008 of Distrigas, the main supplier of natural gas to retailers, Eni's shopping in Belgium resumes. This time in the sights of the Italian energy company is Nuon Energy, a company active in the retail gas sale market and controlled by Vattenfall. According to the official press release, the signature for the sale of the activities in Belgium arrived yesterday. Cost of the operation: approximately 157 million euros.
The agreement provides that three subsidiaries, active in retail sales, will pass under the control of Eni: Nuon Belgium NV, Nuon Wind Belgium NV and Nuon Power Generation Walloon NV. The Belgian company was founded in 2002, employs 150 people and supplies electricity and gas to around 550 electricity and gas customers.
Nuon Belgium, through its subsidiary Nuon Wind Belgium, produces 4,5 MW of renewable energy. The transaction should be completed within the year. The word passes to the Antitrust of the European Commission. The transaction between Nuon and Eni will be concluded in 2011, after approval by the European Commission's Antitrust.
