Enel expands its own presence in US renewables with an acquisition from about 760 millions of dollars. The group has purchase from Excelsior Energy Capital completed of an 810 MW portfolio of solar plants, with an expected average annual production of approximately 1,6 TWh. The transaction represents a milestone in a broader agreement signed in February, which also includes wind farms and should bring the group's renewable capacity in North America to over 13 GW.
The acquisition price, including the adjustments normally expected for transactions of this type, is financed through the cash flows from current operationsAccording to the group's estimates, the solar portfolio should contribute approximately 1.5% to consolidated ordinary EBITDA. 90 million dollars a year.
The completion of the purchase came after the satisfaction of the conditions set out in the agreements, including the issuance of the authorizations required by U.S. regulations.
The wind farm will be completed by the end of the year
The recently completed acquisition is part of the agreements signed in February 2026, relating to a wind and solar portfolio with a total capacity exceeding 1 GW.enterprise value referred to 100% of the entire portfolio is equal to approximately 1,3 billion dollars.
The purchase of the additional items remains to be completed. 205 MW wind power, which is expected to close by the fourth quarter of 2026. Once this step is completed, Enel expects to exceed 13 GW of installed capacity in North America between wind, solar and storage systems.
Growth also comes from plants already in operation
The operation follows the strategy with which Enel aims to increase generation from renewable sources also through the purchase of systems already in operation, according to the model defined as “Brownfield”, in the countries classified by the group as “Tier 1”.
The US portfolio thus strengthens an international presence that sees Enel operate in 27 countries, with a total electricity generation capacity exceeding 92 GW. Of this, 67 GW is managed by Enel Green Power, which manages wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric, and storage plants.
