Edison lights up La Scala for the seventh consecutive year

Edison lights up La Scala for the seventh consecutive year. The CEO of the company Marc Benayoun and the superintendent and artistic director of the Teatro alla Scala Alexander Pereira met yesterday at Palazzo Edison to sign the renewal of the collaboration for the Prima della Scala of the 2017 season.

The link between the energy company and the Scala theater dates back to more than 130 years ago, when Giuseppe Colombo, founder of Edison, brought electric light to the Teatro alla Scala for the first time.

On Boxing Day night 1883, on the occasion of the very crowded Prima de la Gioconda by Ponchielli, the Edison power station of Santa Radegonda (the first in continental Europe) lit 2.450 electric bulbs, giving for the first time a surprising and unexpected light to the Scala representation.
