The request comes from the Governor of Lombardy, the Northern League supporter Attilio Fontana, after having heard the mayors of the regional capitals: tighten government directives even further and close practically everything, from offices to shops, to means of transport (reducing frequency to the bare minimum) e leaving only essential services open, i.e. food and pharmacies. “It's time for firmness – wrote Fontana on Facebook. I met the mayors of the Lombard capitals and the president of Anci Lombardia, they are all asking for the same thing: to close everything now (except essential services) to restart as soon as possible. Half measures, as we have seen in recent weeks, do not serve to contain this emergency”. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte replied that the Government will evaluate the request, postponing the decision to the CDM on Wednesday morning.
“We had already asked to close all commercial activities – the regional health councilor Giulio Gallera had already commented in the morning -, because if I go out to go to work I cannot stop and go shopping. But perhaps the time has also come to tighten the measures even further. Close at least Lombardy entirely for 15 days it may serve to reduce or stop the spread of the virus, experts say. Because we cannot handle the other 15 or 20 days with such a frantic growth of people in emergency rooms and intensive care units, Lombardy cannot handle them and Italy cannot handle them ".
"We need there to be a real turnaround, for people to stop the spread of this contagion, we need the numbers to start decreasing, for everyone to be more aware", added Fontana, while the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala, after initially launching slogans and videos to make a city that shouldn't stop for any reason, felt the duty to correct the shot and launch an appeal in the opposite direction: "Stay at home, I say this especially to you young people", he said in a video posted on social media.
