CDP and Intesa Sanpaolo support Fincantieri for a cruise terminal in the USA

CDP and Intesa Sanpaolo support Fincantieri for a cruise terminal in the USA

Under the banner of the enhancement of Made in Italy in the world, CDP e Intesa Sanpaolo together with Sace and Simest they argue Fincantieri for the construction of the largest cruise terminal in North America, in Miami. The terminal will allow "the simultaneous docking of three MSC cruise ships, handling up to 36 passengers a day", reads a joint note.

With a view to supporting exports, CDP and Intesa Sanpaolo have structured a loan of 350 million euros in favor of MSC - a shipping company dedicated to the cruise market - which will allow Fincantieri to build the infrastructure. The project is guaranteed by Sace and also saw the intervention of Simest for rate stabilization and the interest subsidy.  

In detail, Fincantieri - through its subsidiary Fincantieri Infrastructure - will design and build for MSC Cruises, the third largest cruise brand in the world owned by the MSC Group, a new terminal and related structures for the pier, offices and car parks in the eastern part of the port located in Biscayne Bay in Miami by the end of 2023. 

The infrastructure will be built following a rating system for the development of eco-friendly construction. The project will have a high percentage of energy efficiency through the use of eco-sustainable materials and innovative design and construction technologies, limiting the impact on the environment and at the same time reducing operating costs.

Massimo DiCarlo, chief business officer and deputy general manager of Cdp: "The implementation of this project, in synergy with the banking system and the other partners, represents a virtuous example of infrastructural development in the name of sustainability and innovation".  

“This project – he declares Dario Liguti, chief underwriting officer of Sace - is also aimed at supporting and relaunching the cruise sector, highly strategic for the Italian economy, but hit hard by the pandemic crisis".

While Richard Zatta, global corporate manager of the IMI Corporate & Investment Banking division of Intesa Sanpaolo underlines the importance of supporting operations that can combine environmental sustainability and infrastructural development.
