Boeing, profits still down in the third quarter: -6%, to 1 billion dollars

The aircraft manufacturer saw its revenue grow in the third quarter of the year by 13% to 20 billion dollars, from 17,73 a year ago.

Boeing reported third-quarter earnings down 6% to $1,03 billion or $1,35 a share versus $1,1 billion or $1,46 a share a year ago. The higher contributions to the pension fund accounted for 18 cents per share in the quarter.

Revenue in the period grew 13% to $20 billion from $17,73 a year ago. Analyst expectations were for earnings of $1,12 a share on revenues of $20,07 billion. For full-year 2012, Boeing expects to earn between $4,80 and $4,95 a share, above analyst estimates that average earnings of $4,72 a share.
