Volkswagen Usa, eighth month in a row in decline

The emissions scandal continues to take its toll on Volkswagen registrations. In June, the sales of the German group in the USA fell for the eighth month in a row; the contraction was 21,77% compared to the same month last year, reaching 23.809 units. The figure is worse than the -17,20% in May, the -9,65% recorded in April, when there was a slight improvement after the -10,36% seen last March, the -13,18% recorded last February and the -14,57% seen in January. The figure is decidedly worse even than the -9,11% recorded in December 2015, when there was a slowdown in the fall in registrations after the 24,7% drop seen in November. The performance compares with a 0,24% increase in sales last October.

In September, when the data had not yet reflected the effect of the scandal which exploded in the middle of that month, there had been a rise of 0,6%. Volkswagen of America, the American subsidiary of the German group, limited itself to emphasizing for the umpteenth time the results of the Tiguan car, which achieved its best June ever with deliveries of 3.066 cars (+17,7% on June 2015). "Tiguan continues to maintain a solid pace and brings traffic to dealerships by posting the best June ever," Mark McNabb, chief operating officer of Volkswagen of America, the German group's US subsidiary, said in a statement. “We are also pleased to see the strong performance of the GTI, with its best June ever.” Last month, the Golf family car saw 2.032 registrations (+11,6%). The Golf recorded sales down 48,1% to 1.021 units while the Golf R saw a +49% to 286 units.
