Enjoying an umbrella and sunbed on the beach has become a real luxury. An investigation by Altroconsumo, which examined the rates of over 200 bathing facilities in 10 Italian cities from North to South, found a increase average price of 4%. The weekly expense for renting umbrellas and sunbeds will not be less than 226 euros. These increases, although they may seem modest, add to those of previous years: +5% in 2023 and +10% in 2022.
The survey, entitled "Salt Beaches", reports how continuous price increases are transforming a stay at the seaside into a luxury for the few. Altroconsumo attributes the increase in prices mainly to the "age-old issue of beach concessions, which are automatically renewed for long periods, preventing real competition with all the benefits that this could entail for consumers". But let's see where it costs more and where it costs less rent umbrellas, deck chairs and sun loungers.
Umbrellas and sunbeds: rates in different locations
The survey evaluated prices in Alassio, Alghero, Anzio, Gallipoli, Lignano, Palinuro, Rimini, Senigallia, Taormina (and nearby Giardini Naxos) and Viareggio. The city more expensive è Alassio, where a week between the first and fourth rows costs 340 euros during the peak period from August 4 to 10. In some cases, there is good news: in Lignano, Taormina and Giardini Naxos there was no increase compared to last year. Other places saw small increases: Alghero and Gallipoli (+2%), Alassio, Anzio and Palinuro (+3%), Rimini (+4%) and Viareggio (+5%). The increase higher was registered at Senigallia (+8%), which still remains the location less expensive, with an average weekly expense of 150 euros.
The prices indicated refer to positions that include an umbrella and two sunbeds. Obviously, costs decrease as you move further from the beach and from the fifth row onwards. Who wants save you can choose locations such as Lignano and Rimini, where a first row costs between 164 and 165 euros per week.
