Separation of magistrates' careers: consensus from the left is growing from Boato to Salvi

Despite the usual barrage ofAnm (the National Association of Magistrates) which tirelessly repeats itself at every attempt at justice reform, on the controversial issue separation of magistrates' careers launched by the minister Nordius consensus on the left is growing. Already years ago the champion of the fight against the mafia, Giovanni Falcone, not by chance even then opposed by many fellow magistrates, had expressed himself in favor of the separation of investigating magistrates from judging ones, not seeing in the separation any risk of submission of the judicial power to the Executive. On the same wavelength were the former parliamentarian of the Communist Refoundation and then mayor of Milan, Giuliano Pisapia, and the national congress of Pd of 2019. Now two of the most lucid voices on the left are speaking out on “The paper” in favor of separation: Marco Boato, the former Green MP who in Bicameral D'Alema presented and approved a draft justice reform, and Cesare Salvi, former Minister of Labor and leading exponent of the Democratic Party. There is no scandal and no danger to democracy with the separation of careers. “I am in favor of the Nordio bill which follows my draft reform” says Boato. Salvi echoes him: "The Nordio operation is mainly cosmetic but the protests of the magistrates are a bit exaggerated and demonizing (the reform) is useless." Recalling Falcone's orientation in favor of the separation of careers, Boato concludes with a hope: "I hope that his teachings will now finally be accepted and that a parliamentary discussion will open without ideological prejudices". Many hope so and Boato and Nordio have done very well in clearing the fog hanging over the reform.
