Unipol-Bnl takeover, confirmation of sentences for Fazio, Consorte and Caltagirone requested

The Attorney General of Milan has asked for confirmation of the convictions of Fazio, Consorte and Caltagirone for the takeover of Unipol to Bnl. In addition to these, confirmation of 14 other convictions issued by the court was also requested. The charges are of manipulation, insider trading and obstruction of supervisory authorities.

The first instance sentence of the Unipol-Bnl trial will have to be confirmed. The deputy attorney general of Milan, Felice Isnardi, today asked for confirmation of the convictions. In particular, the public prosecution asked the judges of the second Court of Appeal of Milan to confirm the sentences of 3 years and 6 months for the former governor of Bank of Italy, Antonio Fazio, and 3 years and 10 months for the former leader of the Giovanni Consorte insurance company, at 3 years and 6 months for the entrepreneur Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone. At 3 years and 7 months for the former vice president of Unipol, Ivano Sacchetti, and for the former general manager of Unipol Carlo Cimbri. Overall, the Pg asked for confirmation of the 17 convictions (13 to natural persons and 4 to companies) pronounced by the Court in first instance on 31 October 2011. The charges against the defendants were market manipulation, insider trading and obstruction of the Supervisory Authorities.
